Dr. Charnetta Gadling-Cole is Executive Director of Just for Me, Inc. and President of Just 4 Me Consultants, LLC. She earned her PhD in social work from Howard University (Gerontology and Public Administration Specialization), Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina and BA in psychology from Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU). She is a Qualified Developmental Disability Professional (QDDP). Dr. Gadling-Cole pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at her alma mater, JCSU. She has over 20 years of administrative experience which includes grant writing, program/policy development, quality assurance, accreditation oversight and fundraising. Dr. Gadling-Cole has served as a Fellow at the National Institute of Health (focusing on cancer research protocols and bioethics), Prince Georges County Government and the Gerontological Society of America. She was a Frederick Douglass Visiting Scholar at West Chester University, a University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Geriatric Education Center Faculty Scholar, a UAB Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center: Health Disparities Research Training Program Scholar and a Michigan Center for Urban African American Aging Research Summer Scholar. She has extensive experience working with faith-based and non-profit agencies nationally and internationally including, South Africa, Kenya and Haiti.
Dr. Gadling-Cole’s scholarly work includes books (Caregivers for Persons Living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya: An Ecological Perspective, African American Caregivers: Seasons of Care and African American Women in Academia:Intersectionality of Race and Gender), refereed journal publications and presentations in the areas of family group conference models, HIV/AIDS, gerontology and international social work. In her roles as a researcher, she has been appointed as a scientist in five federally funded centers at UAB and was the first appointed social work-disciplined scientist for the UAB Center for AIDS Research. She has served as a Principal Investigator and consultant for funded research and community grants. Dr. Gadling-Cole co-founded the Office for Global Social Service Research at UAB and the Center for Global Social Service a Research at Alabama A&M University for which she served as the Director. She established the first Rotaract club on a University Campus in the State of Alabama sponsored by Madison Rotary Club. Dr. Gadling-Cole is a founding member of the Huntsville Chapter Association of Black Women in Higher Education; it is the first chapter to be established in the southeast region. During her tenure at UAB she served as the Vice-President for the African American Faculty Association. While serving as a member of the National Association of Deans and Directors (NADD) of Schools of Social Work she co-founded the HBCU Social Work Network. She is the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Gender, Information and Development in Africa (JGIDA) and serves as a reviewer for numerous refereed journals. Most recently, she served as the lead author of a Opioid Impacted Family Support Program 2.2 million grant proposal that was funded by the Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) to expand access to behavioral health services for families affected by opioids and other substance use disorders in Wisconsin and Michigan. Dr. Gadling-Cole serves as the Principal Investigator/Project Director for the HRSA certificate funding.
Dr. Gadling-Cole has worked as a casemanager, social worker and consultant for the Department of Human Resources, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families and Child Protective Services Programs. Before earning her MSW she founded a non-profit organization, Just for Me, Inc., in Charlotte, NC and received HUD funding to provide a summer camp and an after-school program for economically disadvantaged youth. Dr. Gadling-Cole served as a consultant to churches through Florida's Faith and Community Based Initiative in Duval County for which she developed/implemented programs and obtained funding. While matriculating through her MSW program she earned certification as a Qualified Developmental Disability Professional (QDDP) working In the Mecklenburg County Schools and developing/implementing programs through-out the state of NC for Developmentally Disabled individuals and their families. She has worked as a consultant for nursing homes throughout the southeast region.
During Dr. Gadling-Cole’s appointment as an Administrator at Alabama A&M University providing leadership for the Department of Social Work, Psychology and Counseling, she spearheaded an initiative to develop and implement the Alabama A&M University (AAMU) Professional Development School Project (PDSP). PSDP provides college prep programs and services to high school students and recent graduates of The Pinnacle Schools to foster successful transition into the University. The PDSP conducts in-depth orientation for new students selected to participate in the project. After discussing the University requirements and expectations, the PDSP Team completes a bio-psychosocial assessment of each student. The Team also assesses the reading, math, and writing skills. Based on the assessment a personalized case management plan is developed for each student. Students are followed from admission to graduation. Supportive and remedial services are made available when needed. Since the implementation the PDSP model has received national recognition being presented at the annual Professional Development School Conference, the Council on Social Work Education Annual Program Meeting and the University of Buffalo, School of Social Work inSocialWork podcast series.
